Job Description Summary

Our American Axle Manufacturing facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana is hiring for a new role of a Metallurgist. Responsible to provide ongoing metallurgical analysis and physical test results for production process control, product quality assurance, and provides product and material analysis.

Job Description

  • Support of AAM's Safety and Quality programs
  • Must possess good analytical and problem-solving skills and statistical ability
  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, materials and equipment within designated department
  • Support all ISO/TS, IATF, APQP, FMEA, PFMEA Requirements
  • Assures materials meet established criteria and reports exceptions
  • Operation of Metallurgical laboratory equipment to perform sample evaluations
  • Conduct Appropriate testing using the application of measurement system analysis (MSA)
  • All administrative tasks including clearly communicating of production status, requirements, and problems
  • Assist in maintaining and developing standard operating procedures and work instructions

Required Skills and Education

  • B.S. degree with major in metallurgy or mechanical engineering or equivalent training required.
  • 2 - 5 years’ work experience in metallurgy.
  • Formal training in FMEA, APQP, PPAP, MSA and SPC.
  • Thorough understanding of Quality Systems (ISO/TS 16949).
  • Knowledge of process conformance audits.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • High analytical ability where problems are complex.
  • Fluency in Microsoft applications
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • High level of communication skills to work effectively with others, empower employees and increase work output.
